Why intersect: Breadwoman is a minimal experimental album with wonderful, eerie sounds; Criss X Cross is a minimal solo-instrumental album with wonderful, peaceful music.

Where intersect: all tracks seem to complement each other. Try Sirens and Criss X Cross 4 & Gu She’ Na’ Di and Call.

Recommend intersect: Yes! Gibson’s beautiful playing meshes nicely with Anna Homler’s compelling, and sometimes creepy, sounds and noises. Both albums have a special place in the collection; together they open a new dimension of music.

Why intersect: Lapsed is a psychedelic classic, Sosleep is frantic energy and perpetually searches for more crazy as it progresses.

Where intersect: start at the beginning – Tommy Gun Angel with Sosleep1, and go from there.

Recommend intersect: this isn’t the easiest combination, but there are points where the incredibly different approaches to art can infect the ears to trip the mind, even more than each album does in isolation.

Why intersect: Dälek gives a perfect emotional trip-hop album, Pisaro offers haunting tones and drones.

Where intersect: try Los Macheteros / Spear of a Nation with VIII + IX

Recommend intersect: Dälek’s full sound doesn’t open too many doors for intrusion of other sounds, but the drones from Pisaro and friend’s work occasionally makes for an interesting tangent.

Why intersect: an early release from Colleen is full of minimal beauty; O Yama O is unpredictably crazy.

Where intersect: Everything Lay Still and Leave The Fur Behind is kinda creepy; The Golden Morning Breaks and Yubu is fun.

Recommend intersect: I wasn’t so sure at first, but the two vastly different styles here mesh remarkably well. There were many points where I wasn’t sure which artist owned the sounds I was hearing, which is probably the finest outcome of the Intersection activity. Colleen is the first artist who I have featured twice in this effort; her wonderful music leaves openings to randomly construct even more greatness.

Maya Dunietz – Five Chilling Mammoths & Rasa – Serene Timeless Joy

Why intersect: Mammoths is a free collection of “feral piano” sounds; Rasa is a Bill Laswell project of peaceful, occasionally repetitive sounds.

Where intersect: Each album is its own full-length novel, so joining the stories at any combination of time creates an interesting journey.

Recommend intersect: Yes. The drastic contrast in sounds is tempered by a common performance strategy that meshes well together.

Pit Er Pat – Emergency & Low / Dirty Three – In The Fishtank 7

Why intersect: Emergency has a repetitive, bouncy energy while the this capture of the Fishtank series is full of slow emotion.

Where intersect: Try I Am The Jungle with When I Called Upon Your Seed.

Recommend intersect: It is hard for me to give a definite yes to this combo. There are some interesting crossings of the minimal guitars and haunting vocals, but the differences in pace between these two fun recordings do not make for the easiest listen when played together.

Why intersect: Colleen consistently plays beautifully composed, minimal music; Nexus & Sō explore wonderful paths of percussion.

Where intersect: This Hammer Breaks and Mallet Phase is easily my favorite combination of tunes, albeit a little obvious to play together. Lighthouse and Music for Mallet Instruments, Voices, and Organ is a little more experimentally fun.

Recommend intersect: Yes! These are two pretty remarkable albums to play independently. Minimal but very different in their construction, together they still leave holes to be filled in by the creative mind while presenting brand new songs to the familiar ear.
