Thursday Random Eight (11/24/2010)
Blind Willie McTell - My Baby's Gone: After a number of years of hack surgery on the device, I'm pretty sure the iPod has finally outlived itself and is slowly dying. It is somewhat exciting to see if it will make it through the random eight. I doubt if Willie McTell considered the iPod his baby many decades ago, but it is just about gone, and the words apply...at least, somewhat.
Parson Sound - Blaslaten: Quiet track from the band almost as a slightly ambient, jazzy interlude.
Marillion - Warm Wet Circles: Part of the opening trilogy of songs from Clutching at Straws that deceptively starts off somewhat bright before descending into a darkness that matches the alcoholic theme of the album...although the iPod decided to skip to the next track before the tune got too depressing, so that's something.
The Paper Chase - Ready, Willing, Cain and Able: Now we are blatantly miserable.
Jay Reatard - Hammer I Miss You: Just another fun punky song.
Robyn Hitchcock - Beautiful Queen: Another fine tune from the great Storefront Hitchcock live release.
Boom Boom Satellites - An Owl: I like owls, and I like the Boom Boom Satellites, but I don't think this fast, crazy tune really makes me think of owls.
Merzbow - Purple Triangle: I have to say, it is about time...I ripped the entire Thirteen Japanese Birds in a Bag collection recently and was quietly wondering when one of the noisy tracks would make it to the random eight. It is funny to think how further and further away I'm growing from conventional, if not actual, music with interests like these...but I can't seem to stop listening to it.
