Why intersect: Grendel is a 17-minute prog-rock legend; The Last Human Gateway is a 19-minute prog-rock legend that opens the Lush Attic album.

Where intersect: the intent here is obvious…will these two lengthy ballads mesh into a single song that will somehow change the world.

Recommend intersect: Hell no. There is probably some scientific explanation as to why I feel compelled to listen to grey-haired prog-rock on Saturday evenings, but the desire to intersect these two epics – decent and memorable in their independence – was a colossal miscalculation of interest. The progressive deviations of volume, speed, and storytelling are at complete odds with each other, and not in a happy Merzbow way. IQ and Marillion deserve their own galaxies…light years away from each other.
